Next ASOP Annual Conference, Friday, July 15th & Saturday, July, 16th in Orlando, Florida!!!

ASOP is coming to FLORIDA!!!.  Well not exactly….. we have always been here.  Enjoying the cool breezes on the beach and early bird dinners.   Now it’s time to invite the ASOP membership to join us in Orlando next July.  Only a $150.00 registration fee (before January 1st) to attend this CE approved conference.  And for our orthopedic manufacturing friends, only a $500.00 fee for one of 25 spots in Vendor Hall.

The Crown Plaza, off of the famous International Drive, will be our meeting central hotel.  Register before January 1st to receive the discounted conference registration fee of $150.00.  After January 1st, $300.00.  Its like a free night in the hotel.  If two register and share a room, it’s like we paid for your hotel stay.  The registration process will begin in two weeks.   You don’t have to send any money till February 1st.  Just let us know you want to attend.

This meeting is very special.  ASOP wants to start the process again for state licensure in Florida for Orthopedic Technologists.  State licensing is necessary for any medical profession to protect the public and to protect careers. In Florida (and 13 other states) there is some level of licensing in applying braces for Orthotists and Fitters.  These states think using Velcro is more difficult and dangerous to the public than applying a fracture cast.

Florida State legislators will be invited to attend casting workshops and see for themselves the technical abilities needed to apply fracture casts correctly.  By educating the people who write and pass the laws in Florida and ASOP members visiting their offices in Tallahassee, Florida might be the first state to pass licensure for Orthopedic Technologists.  We will also have speakers from Medicare giving us updates on the new billing and staff rules.  This gives the ASOP Annual Conference a whole new purpose.

The ASOP discount hotel rate will extend all week long so bring your family.  Cast your kids in our peds workshop!!!  Hip Spica anyone?

If a law passes regarding this what will happen to those who have been registered Orthopedic Techs through out the years? What will happen to those techs who went to Orthopedic Tech school in the Military? Will they be grandfathered into this?

There is always a grandfather period. So no need to worry. I went through this same problem when Florida started a license for Orthotists. They grandfathered everyone working as an Orthotist within the state first. Then they required passing the national exam for all others after the grandfather period.
