  • Providing evidence-based research that is responsive to the musculoskeletal demands of the orthopedic population;
  • Being the primary advocate of the orthopedic technology profession for its legislative advancement towards professional state licensure;
  • Exploring the opportunity to develop professional opportunities for employment diversification
  • Advocating the demand for the highest clinical standards, ethical decision-making and professionalism of its membership.

ASOP Continuing Education Guidelines:

ASOP recognizes the broad spectrum of professional expertise within the orthopedic and sports medicine specialties that would mandate the need for further continuing education.  In an effort to further strengthen the member’s occupational advancement in their chosen field, ASOP encourages the accumulation of continuing education from within their particular professional trade organization, as well as exploring other educational opportunities from other credentialed pathways.

ASOP members are required to complete 12 continuing education units (CEUs) per calendar year throughout a 2-year cycle.  Please note: Any continuing education units that are officially approved by your professional organization (ie., NATA, ASRT, BOC, ABC etc) may be used for ASOP documentation purposes towards CEU accumulation.   Furthermore, ASOP members may also elect to participate in ASOP-sponsored continuing education workshops, seminars, online courses etc. to fulfill CEU requirements.

Throughout the 2-year CEU reporting term, members are required to document all continuing education opportunities.  Please be advised that members are subject to CEU audit following the previous term.  In the event of being audited by the ASOP Continuing Education Commission (CEC), the member must provide documented proof for all accumulated CEUs.  Members should retain documentation (ie., conference/symposium agenda, badges, certificates etc) as proof of participation and/or attendance.  In the event that such evidence of CEU participation cannot be submitted, the member must provide in writing an overview of the participating activities that satisfy CEU mandates. Following the request for member audit, any failure or inability on the individual’s part to remit the necessary documentation to maintain credentialing status shall result in member suspension until CEU verification can be established.
