About the Orthopedic Radiology Exam
The Certification Exam in Orthopedic Radiography is designed to be a unique learning experience as well as proof of competency for the applicant. Professor Bill Hennessy from Quinnipiac College, Diagnostic Imaging Program, developed the exam for ASOP. His many years of experience preparing exams for his students at the college level is seen in every question. You will receive a certificate, suitable for framing, from the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals indicating your competency in Orthopedic Radiography if you attain a passing grade of 85%. There is no time limit for the exam.

Many Radiologic Technologists work alone in orthopedic practices where daily interaction with other RT's, with the resultant professional improvement, is impossible. This exam will help you bridge that gap.

It is suggested that you have one or more year's experience in Orthopedic Radiography before taking the exam. You are not expected to be able to answer all the questions without research using various references or resources from your job or medical library.
As part of the ongoing effort to improve on everything ASOP does, we ask you to submit a question for future exams. It should be in the form of a question that requires a short essay answer and should cover orthopedic views or patient positioning unique to orthopedics that you use in your practice. Don't forget to include the answer and the reference where the answer can be found.

The Exam
This examination is taken in "open book" format. You are free to answer the questions after research or discussion with your fellow workers. We feel this exam will encourage you to review your knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology, Orthopedic Medicine, Trauma and Radiography. The OAP Certification Exam in Orthopedic Radiography is designed to allow you to show what you know about Orthopedic Radiography, not what you don't know.

The exam, including research, will take approximately 5-10 hours to complete. You are encouraged to use the Internet, your office library, and fellow workers as a learning resource. There is no time limit for returning the completed exam to ASOP for grading. A grade of 85% or higher is passing. Those who do not pass can retake the exam at no charge.

Continuing Education
Twelve (12) hours of ASOP Continuing Education will be awarded to those who successfully complete the OAP Certification Exam in Orthopedic Radiography.
